Five ways shopping can boost your health and wellbeing
With Spring, or, if this month’s weather is anything to go by, Summer, in the air, now’s the time you’ll probably be itching to get out and about at lunchtime.
And, who could blame you? Yep the aircon is probably on at full blast and you’ll want to take off those layers keeping you warm in the office. Why do offices do that?
Oh, and it’s not just about keeping warm – ready for the science bit, research has shown that getting away from your desk for an hour can help boost creativity and energise you.
So, with all these great reasons in mind, there’s not really any excuse not to get on down to your local shops and high street.
Here’s why:
Bask in the warmth
If, like us, you’re counting down til’ payday, shopping may not appeal right now. However, simply meandering around the shops is great for clearing your mind and getting your creative thinking on. Alternatively, grab a seat inside, or, outside of your fave coffee shop or seating area, take out your book and have some me-time. Not a reader? Grab an adult colouring book, or get into knitting – both proven to really chill you out.
Go shopping
If you have pennies left… lucky you! Then take advantage of retail therapy. Yup, that’s right. It really does what it says on the tin. Buying clothes, books and even kitchen wares are proven to make you feel satisfied and happy. And why wouldn’t it! It’s a great excuse to treat yourself without feeling guilty.
Get an MOT
No, we’re not talking about your car – although if you’re driving, why not treat your car to clean in the car park – we’re talking about you. An eye test, especially if you’re working at a computer, is an annual must and the great news is that it can be done during your lunchbreak. Here’s a little tip: If you use a computer for long periods of time, your employer may pay for your test too. Speak to the guys at the opticians when you book and to your employer. Bonus!
Claw back the healthy eating
The beginning of Spring means Summer really is just around the corner, which means we’re all getting into the ‘beach body’ spirit. And that means healthy eating. So kick start it now. Grab your spring greens and fish from a supermarket (check out this recipe for a great simple summer meal (add link) or visit a restaurant or café that offers healthy lunches. Yep, it’s that simple.
Bag a bargain
The first steps to feeling happy and energised is to feel satisfied. So, take advantage of these latest offers (add link) on your local centre’s page. Or, nab a bargain in one of the seasonal sales. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve saved cash while looking good!
Make someone else happy
A small gift can brighten up anyone’s day. And it’s proven to make you feel better too! Whether it’s a friend in need of a hot chocolate, or a quirky birthday card for a work colleague, a romantic card coupled with flowers for a partner, or just a simple keyring with a silly message, you call enjoy making someone smile. They may even pay back the favour – but that’s not why we do it… honest!
